I shared in the most recent post about how to boil a frog. You cannot put him in a pot of boiling water: he'll just jump right out.
However, if you can get him comfortable in some lukewarm water, then slowly turn up the heat, one degree at a time---over time, he will boil in the boiling water. Why? Because he was not paying attention. He cannot even pay attention, because he does not have a temperature detector in his body!
During my mid-week review, in preparation for the second half of the week, I am meditating on a key success factor: taking personal inventory.
If you don't take personal inventory, what can happen?
Let me give you an idea:
1) you won't understand that you have some glaring blind spots in your personality or character. Over time, those blind spots can lead to problems in business and in relationships.
2) you won't understand that you have certain weaknesses, which, left unattended, will lead to boiling your frog in the areas of finances, relationships, and your career.
What inspired me to write this post? Well, the water was starting to get a bit hot in a couple areas of my life. I am just so thankful that the water has not gotten to the boiling point, because this frog hopped out of the water, and took a look in the mirror in order to make some positive changes and get back on track!
I took some key actions today that have resulted in me turning down the burner, so that I hope to achieve some better results in the key financial and relational areas I was made aware of.
How about you? Have you taken personal inventory? Was it painful? Remember: short term pain, long term gain. On the other hand, you can ignore your need for inventory, and you will have the short term gain of denial, but long term pain from the consequences of ignoring your blind spots.
