Or are they? Well, not everyone is! If you drive into certain neighborhoods, you will see that the residents are living lives of abundance. In your company or field of business, there are people who stand out for their record of excellence. If you meet certain successful people, you will see that they talk, think, and act in ways that show they are abundance minded. Those who are dirt poor often are jealous, critical, or resentful of those who are more well of than they.
And that's where the problem starts: in their thinking and in their mindset.
It's time to develop a new outlook that will pave the way for abundance in your life.
Brian Klemmer shares some great tips from his book, The Compassionate Samurai.
Be Willing to Pay the Price. Chris Brogan, a very successful blogger and entrepeneur posted a video last week about being an "overnight" success. It shows him bleary eyed, packing up his bags in his home, ready to hit the road on the way to Blogger World, a convention in Nevada, at which he gave a keynote address. His point was that a key success factor is being willing to put in the hours and hours of time that it takes to be an "overnight success." Wherever you find successful people, whether Tiger Woods, Michael Jordan, TV Anchors, or anyone on the top of the field, you will find people who committed to paying the price.
Decide to Embrace Adversity. I had the privilege of receiving a pre-print copy of The Skinny on Success: Why Not You? for my review. I will write more about it on future posts, but I highly recommend that you check it out. I'm going to have my son read it, and I can think of a few young men I want to read it. The critical success factor, he found in all his research, was the attitude that people chose to adopt toward adversity. If you view adversity as your friend and teacher, you will have the resilience that it takes to reach your goals of abundance. However, if you adopt the "fast food" mentality of many people: "I hope I win the lottery. I wish Aunt Gertrude would leave me some money in her will. Why does everyone else seem to get the breaks?" you will never have the persistence and "stick to-it-iveness" that it takes to succeed.
Kill the Scarcity Mindset, and Blow on the Sparks of an Abundance Mindset. Scarcity is an insidious attitude that will defeat every attempt you make toward a more abundant life.
These are the questions of the scarcity mindset:
- There aren't enough customers.
- There aren't enough good women/men.
- There isn't enough time.
- There isn't enough money.
- There isn't enough ooil.
- There isn't enough love.
- There isn't enough ______ (you fill in the blank).
Practice the Fine Art of Giving. The practice of giving back 10% of your possessions is a practice from ancient times, and recommended by wise people from all ages. As a Christian I practice tithing because I want to acknowledge that everything I have: my mind, having breath and life, comes from my Creator. I am entrusted with all I have, and I want to be a wise administrator of time, material goods, and possessions. In giving, I am creating the space to receive more, which creates the abundance cycle: give, receive, give, receive.
